How do you define HR?

I define human resources as the department within a company that works with employees helping to solve their issues and fulfill their needs.  HR responsibilities are always completed with the overall goals, needs and mission of the organization. The HR department must take a holistic approach to work and create worthwhile jobs that people want to fulfill.

I define human resources as an indispensable partner to the business that is strategic, pro-active, and data driven. It is often said by companies that "people are our most important resource" and it is the job of HR to make sure the company is engaging, developing, and supporting its most important resource.

I define Human Resources as creating a springboard to bring out everyone’s best (not just me, or just you, or just the CEO but everyone’s best). Intimately knowing our talent, the archetypes we want, where to find them and how to make them die to want to work with us.

Human Resources – The place where employees can find a shoulder to cry on; direction for their career or life; the one stop shop to blow off steam or spill your heart; the place where people matter; WE ARE H.R.!

Human Resources is the meat and potatoes to any company. Without "human resources/human capital" no company can be successful. The department of Human Resources are the professionals responsible for cultivating a company's' "human resources". At People's Care we are the HR Dream Team. We put the HR in HeaRt by showing up and going above and beyond for our "human resources" daily.

I define Human Resources as both an employee and management facing resource. HR is a place that Employees go with Payroll and Management concerns and questions. At the same time, Management relies on HR to stay abreast of evolving people and payroll legal requirements, while also attracting and retaining top talent for the company.

HR should be a firm middle ground for the business side but also for the employees. Where classically employees "fear" HR, I believe that HR today should promote support and advocacy to the employee while still adhering to the needs and interests of the business.

I define Human Resources as the central location within a company. HR serves as the organizational aspect of the company as well as the recruiting side, and everything in between. To me, HR is two fold, specifically at our company. On one hand HR is responsible for payroll administration, benefits, setting policies + procedures, managing time off and company holidays, and also the fun things like celebrating birthdays, new hires, and work anniversaries. On the other hand, HR is responsible for recruiting and hiring - from screening resumes, conducting phone interviews, improving the hiring process and ultimately, placing that exciting final offer to a new hire- someone who can be a great asset to the company. HR is responsible for finding and bringing in new talent to help grow the company. Overall, HR serves as that point of contact that an employee can go to if they're just not sure who to turn to. They can always come to HR, who will either have the answer, or point them in the right direction.

I define Human Resources as the Parent of the organization. The company is the family and all the employees are members. HR must enforce policies, use judgement to make sound decisions that affect other people, have the ability to plan for the organization’s well-being, listen to and counsel employees, carry out discipline when needed and make exceptions when appropriate

HR is much more than just hiring/training and administrating people. One of the toughest jobs as it has a "human" touch to it - people come for solace to HR, this department has highest power, brings people together and defines the work culture of a company.
